Brookfield Schools opened its doors in 1976, known first as Turning Point and then later as the Camden County Alternative School, in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. It's core mission: to serve students needing intensive behavioral/therapeutic intervention. In 1998, the name was changed to Brookfield Academy and the school continued to expand services and programs.

Today, Brookfield Schools serves students with special needs ages 5 through 21 with specialized programs in three settings. Brookfield Academy in Cherry Hill, New Jersey serves high school age students, Brookfield Elementary in Haddon Heights, New Jersey serves kindergarten through eighth grades, and the Transition to College Program, located on the Blackwood, New Jersey campus of Camden County College, provides a unique opportunity for high school juniors and seniors.

Homebound Services have been expanded through the years and full-day school programs have been added.
